About Radiesse
Radiesse is a dermal filler made from calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) that is used to help add natural-looking volume by stimulating collagen and elastin production. CaHA can also potentially increase the fibroblasts in your skin, improving the look, feel, and overall quality of the skin tone and texture. (3) This treatment not only offers noticeable improvements but also gradual results as the treatment continues to stimulate collagen over time. Radiesse is considered to be a durable and reliable option for most patients and is primarily used when treating the jawline, hands, and lower face.

Benefits of Radiesse
There are many benefits of a Radiesse treatment. Patients can experience improved facial volume, deep tissue rejuvenation, and more balanced facial proportions. Radiesse stimulates the production of collagen in the skin, smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles while improving skin tone and quality. Radiesse is an effective, biocompatible filler with few side effects, making it an ideal treatment for sensitive patients. Radiesse injections typically take 15-30 minutes, making this a quick treatment that even the busiest of clients can enjoy.

How Radiesse (CaHA) Works Without Inflammation
Unlike other bio-stimulating treatments such as Juvelook and Sculptra, Radiesse works without inflammation, so those who have very reactive, sensitive skin may also be great candidates for this treatment. Radiesse is not only highly praised for its rejuvenating effects, but its ability to provide results without causing an inflammatory response. What makes this injectable different from other treatments is the high level of biocompatibility of the Radiesse formula.
Radiesse is composed of thousands of CaHA microspheres suspended within a gel carrier. These microspheres are synthetic but have the same chemical makeup as our bones and teeth. (1) When administered, the gel carrier provides immediate volume to the treatment area, instantly addressing wrinkles and other signs of aging. As the gel is slowly absorbed and broken down, the body will replace it with natural tissue, but the microspheres will remain. These microspheres act as scaffolding for fibroblasts, triggering a process known as mechanotransduction. This process is the direct stimulation of the fibroblasts due to the physical presence of the microspheres.
The result is the production of Type I collagen, the specific variation of collagen that can be found in the skin, bone, teeth, ligaments, and organs. It is estimated that more than 90% of collagen molecules found in the body consist of type I collagen. (4)
Ideal Candidates
The ideal candidates for Radiesse are those experiencing the signs and symptoms of aging and wish to restore a more youthful look. At 17Medspa, we can use Radiesse to address moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds ( such as nasolabial folds), volume loss in the hands, and moderate to severe loss of jawline contour in adults over the age of 21.
If you have any active skin infections, your injector will recommend that you delay the treatment until your infection clears. Your injector may recommend an alternative treatment for you if you have any allergies that could result in a negative reaction to the Radiesse formula. Patients with a history of forming large, raised scars should discuss this issue with their professional.
Personal Consultation
At 17Medspa, we ask that each patient attend a personal consultation before scheduling a Radiesse treatment. This is to allow our team to get to know each patient and to examine the treatment area.
To speak to a member of our team about Radiesse, please give us a call or contact us online. We offer consultations at both of our convenient California locations:
Preparation
Before each appointment, our team ensures each patient is instructed on how to properly prepare for their treatment at their personal consultation. Patients should ensure they follow any instructions given by a member of our team at 17Medspa for the most optimal outcome. We may ask you to refrain from using certain medications or supplements that may thin the blood before your scheduled treatment. On the day of your appointment, you should arrive with clean skin, free of any makeup or skincare products.
Procedure
Your injector will use a fine needle to carefully inject the dermal filler into the designated target areas. The amount of filler needed will depend on the size of the treatment area and the severity of the symptoms being treated. Your injector will administer the formula evenly beneath the skin for natural-looking results. The entire duration of the procedure can last anywhere between 15-30 minutes, making this a short procedure that offers even the busiest of patients significant results.
Recovery
Radiesse rarely causes side effects or allergic reactions in patients and has a lower risk of migrating. After receiving a Radiesse treatment, patients can typically return to their daily routines with no interruptions. However, you should avoid participating in strenuous activities, as well as extensive sun or heat exposure for about 24 hours after your appointment, and until any swelling or redness subsides. Our team of experts at 17Medspa take precautions to ensure the best outcomes for our patients.
Results

Patients will be able to notice significant changes soon after their treatment. This treatment also offers gradual results, with the full effects of Radiesse being seen a few weeks following injection as the collagen in the skin increases. Radiesse offers natural-looking results, smoothing wrinkles while offering an improved facial contour, with results lasting a year or more for many patients. These traits make Radiesse a quick treatment that offers long-lasting results. (5) You can discuss when it would be appropriate to schedule a touch-up appointment with your injector.
Corresponding Procedures
Radiesse is just one of the many injectables we offer at 17Medspa, and many patients will receive more than one injectable to enhance their results. Our recommended corresponding procedure is Ultherapy Prime. This non-invasive treatment uses ultrasound energy to help tighten and lift loose, wrinkled skin, while also stimulating the production of collagen. This treatment is considered the gold standard for non-surgical skin rejuvenation and can be customized by our team to complement any one of our rejuvenating treatments for enhanced results. It comes from Merz, the same parent company as Radiesse.
One of the most popular, complementary injectables we offer is Juvederm. Juvederm is a hyaluronic acid-based filler that adds volume and attracts moisture. This is especially helpful for patients whose features appear deflated or sunken due to volume loss.
Botox is also commonly administered alongside Radiesse. As a neuromodulator, Botox keeps muscles in a semi-permanent relaxed state, preventing the formation of wrinkles by inhibiting muscle contractions. If you are interested in receiving different injectables during your appointment, you are welcome to explore your options during your consultation.

17Medspa is currently partnered with reputable financing company Cherry to help our patients plan, budget, and finance their treatments.

FAQ
How long will it take to see the full results of my Radiesse treatment?
Patients will be able to experience noticeable results immediately following their injections. However, some results from Radiesse can continue to develop over time, due to the gradual production of collagen. Patients can often experience the fuller results of their Radiesse treatment a few weeks after their appointment.
How long will the results of my Radiesse treatment last?
The results of Radiesse can last a year or more in many patients. Patients can schedule touch-up appointments to maintain their results. Discuss the possibility of a touch-up appointment with your injector to gain more insight into the process.
How many injections of Radiesse will I need?
The amount of Radiesse used for each patient can vary. The number of Radiesse injections each patient receives can depend on the symptoms being treated and the size of the treatment area. Radiesse can be used to rejuvenate the hands, lower face, and jawline.
Can my Radiesse appointment be combined with other treatments?
Yes! You can receive multiple different treatments during your appointment. During your Radiesse appointment, you can receive other injections, such as neuromodulators like Botox or hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm. Because these injectables each work in different ways, receiving different treatments can help some patients achieve their aesthetic goals in a more comprehensive way.
What should I avoid after my Radiesse treatment?
It is advisable to avoid sun exposure and intense physical activity for at least 24 hours post-treatment to minimize complications.
